What is Tamarind?
The Tamarind (Tamarindus indica) is native to Africa, and grown in the tropical areas of South Asia, The Caribbean, South America, and now in the Tropical Redlands of South Florida. This fruit has a brownish, shell exterior similar to the shape of snap peas. Inside each “pod” is a seed surrounded by a delicious soft pulp. Simply crack each Tamarind shell, and enjoy the sweet and sour taste of the pulp. Many people in South Asia and India have used this fruit to create popular spices, and you can too enjoy many of their recipes with taste of the Tamarind.
